When the Timberwolves pick 9th in the NBA draft Thursday night, it will herald the first significant decision from the new president of basketball operations, Flip Saunders.
What will he do?
Well, for one thing, it doesn’t sound like he’ll take the bait and swap Kevin Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers for the overall No. 1 pick.

Today, Star Tribune writer Jim Souhan wrote that Saunder’s best strategy might be to keep a low profile: What they need from Saunders is common sense, or, better yet, calm and sense. Wolves fans should be hoping this week that Saunders’ experience in the NBA outweighs any urge to get mentioned on “SportsCenter.”
So who’s out there?
According to the Canis Hoopus blog, Kentucky’s Nerlens Noel is the cream of the crop in what’s regarded as a weak draft. Writer vj110 lists the Top 14 prospects overall, as well as the best prospects by position. Yep, it’s inside basketball, but very well done.
Also well done, the Associated Press post today listing the best and worst draft choices for all 30 NBA teams since 1966. While Kevin Garnett is listed as the Timberwolves’ best pick ever, can you name the worst?
Hint: It wasn’t Stephen Curry.
