What’s up with national sportswriters taking cheap shots at Olive Garden?
First and foremost, it’s a damn good Italian food chain that offers a huge menu and unlimited breadsticks. Secondly, what the hell does it have to do with the Vikings?
Before the Vikings-Jets game earlier this season, a columnist in the New York Post ripped on Minnesota and Kirk Cousins, saying Cousins picked the Mall of America over Manhattan and Olive Garden over some fancy Italian joint in NYC.
Now, after watching the Vikings lose at home to the Saints on Sunday night, Bleacher Report columnist Mike Freeman is comparing Cousins to Olive Garden.
“Cousins is astonishingly meh. He’s Olive Garden,” writes Freeman, who clearly has two stupid opinions.
Alas, we give him the opportunity to sound even dumber:
“An average, super-duper-expensive quarterback who wasn’t worth the cash. One of the most the marvelously mediocre, stupendously average, remarkably decent quarterbacks in recent football memory. The QB who won’t blow your socks off—but they will sort of fall off, maybe. Or they might need a push or two. And then you’ll look at those socks and think: Why was I wearing them again?”
You see, this is a classic case of someone trying to come up with a big opinion, trying too hard and failing miserably. Yes, Cousins’ pick-six against the Saints was a terrible pass, but he’s been extremely good otherwise.
Cousins made jaw-dropping touchdown throws against the 49ers and Packers, kept the Vikings in the game on the road against the undefeated Rams and led Minnesota to road wins in Philly and New York.
He’s completing 70.7 percent of his passes and has thrown for 2,521 yards with 16 touchdowns and only four interceptions. What about being second in the NFL in yards, fourth in completion percentage and tied fourth in touchdown passes is meh?
Is now a good time to remind Freeman that Cousins is putting up those numbers behind an offensive line in shambles and without Dalvin Cook?
It’s a foolish column that got even dumber when Freeman said Cousins “is so average he sweats margarine.”
Somebody, please, for the love of god, invite this joker to open mic night at Acme Comedy so he can find out how funny he really is.
