Kirby Puckett was arguably Minnesota’s biggest sports superstar during his playing career, but it all came to an abrupt end on July 12, 1996.
Late in the 1995 season, Puckett was hitting .314 with 23 home runs and 99 RBIs before a fastball by Dennis Martinez hit him in the face, ending his 10th consecutive All-Star season.
On March 28, 1996 Puckett woke up with blurred vision in his right eye and he was later diagnosed with glaucoma. It ended his Hall of Fame career.
Here’s the video unveiled today by the Twins to celebrate Puckett’s marvelous career.
