Byron Buxton’s awesome September continued Tuesday night when he flew through the air like Superman to make an incredible diving catch.
It happened when the Twins were trailing 6-0 in the seventh inning when Jose Iglesias hit a soft liner to left-center field. According to Statcast, Buxton reached a top speed of 22.1 mph – his fastest speed running in the outfield this season – before laying out to make the catch.
For comparisons sake, Buxton’s speed on that play was slightly slower than the fastest speed an NFL player reached in Week 2. Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs, who was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week, reached a speed of 22.5 mph, the fastest in the league.
Buxton is hitting .297 with 6 homers and 15 RBIs in September.
Crowd was still buzzing over Byron Buxton's diving catch in LCF when Miguel Cabrera lined Michael Tonkin's next pitch into LF seats. 8-0.
