The coaches and sportwriters who rank college football teams have taken note of the University of Minnesota’s four-game winning streak. The Gophers outlasted Penn State 24-10 Saturday at TCF Bank Stadium.
The Pioneer Press reports that the Gophers (8-2, 4-2) were ranked at No. 25 in the latest USA Today coaches poll released Sunday, the first time the team has broken into the top 25 since 2008.
USA Today had the full results of the coach’s poll, including the presence of other Big Ten teams, including Ohio State at No. 3, Michigan State at No. 16 and Wisconsin at No. 20.
The Star Tribune reported that the Gophers fell just short of making the Associated Press top 25. They received 68 points, good for 27th in the media poll.
It’s shaping into quite a border battle later this month. Minnesota has a bye this week before playing rival Wisconsin on Nov. 23 at TCF Bank Stadium.
