The Twins’ miserable run at the plate continued at Target Field Monday night, as the San Francisco Giants won the season opener with ease 4-1.
Already the team with the most strikeouts in Major League Baseball heading into Monday’s game, the Twins added 16 more to the tally against some pretty weak pitchers.
Bailey Ober gave up four runs in the first inning, including a three-run homer to Michael Conforto, with the Twins heading to the plate already 4-0 down.
After opener John Brebbia took the first inning, the Giants brought in Sean Manaea, who entered the game with a 7.81 ERA on the season.
He pitched 3.2 innings for no earned runs, striking out eight Twins batters.
The Twins eventually got on the board in the 8th inning with a solo home run from Kyle Garlick, who was brought on to replace Alex Kirilloff early in the game (no information as to why at this time).
Ryan Jeffers was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the 9th, only for Michael A. Taylor to immediately ground into a double play the next pitch.
Carlos Correa was the only Twin with more than one hit, finishing 2-for-4.
#MNTwins are 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. They trail 4-1 headed to the ninth.
