Paul Molitor had a second interview with the Minnesota Twins and general manager Terry Ryan on Tuesday for the open team manager job.
Molitor, 58, told the Pioneer Press in a text message he thought the second visit with the Twins went fine. Molitor told the newspaper no job offer was extended to him.

The Twins are looking to replace Ron Gardenhire as the team’s manager after 13 seasons. Gardenhire was dismissed the day after the season ended.
Molitor may be the favorite to be offered the job, but he isn’t the only candidate still in the running. According to the Boston Globe, Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo also remains in the hunt. Former Twins player and manager of the Twins’ Class A affiliate in Fort Myers, Doug Mientkiewicz, is also thought to still be in the hunt.
Molitor is a native of St. Paul. He spent all but three of the past 19 seasons in the Twins organization as a player or coach. Molitor has held a variety of coaching positions in the organization, including serving as the bench coach (2000-’01) under former Twins manager Tom Kelly.
He has also spent time as an assistant helping prospects in the minors, before joining the Twins Major League staff prior to the start of last season.
Molitor spent much of his playing career with the Milwaukee Brewers. He also played in Toronto before joining the Twins.
The Twins would need special permission from Major League Baseball to announce their manager before the World Series ends. If they do decide make the announcement during the series, the off days are Thursday or Monday.
Ryan didn’t make it sound like an announcement was imminent when he talked to the Star Tribune on Tuesday.
“I didn’t think we would hire anybody before the World Series,” Ryan told the newspaper.
If the announcement isn’t made during one of the off days, the Twins may just wait until the series comes to an end.
