John Lannan, Kevin Correia, Brett Myers, Joe Blanton, Brandon McCarthy and Ryan Dempster are the biggest free agent starting pitchers the Twins are rumored to have interest in, but they still haven’t signed anyone. La Velle Neall III of the Star Tribune says it’s common at this point of the winter meetings to have a “staredown” between teams and players’ agents.
Either it’s a staredown or the number of teams competing for the top free agents pitchers is slowing activity down. John Heyman of Sports Illustrated says at least 15 teams are looking for starters.
ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick reports the Twins have made Blanton a “prime target.” He went 10-13 with a 4.71 ERA while splitting time between the Phillies and Dodgers last season.
