Oct. 5, 2004 is a date that lives in Twins infamy.
It was the last time the Twins won a playoff game. The Metrodome was the venue, and the New York Yankees the victims to a team led by ace pitcher Johan Santana.
Fast forward almost 16 years and the Twins haven’t won a playoff game, a run stretching 18 games, the latest two of which were this week against the Houston Astros.
Minnesota’s latest shame sparked headlines across the country including this from the Wall Street Journal: How the Minnesota Twins became the worst playoff team in sports history.
Want to know how bad it is? Even the Minnesota Timberwolves have won a postseason game between Oct. 5, 2004 and now, and they’ve only been in the playoffs once – ONCE – since then.
Naturally, the Twins’ reliable postseason uselessness has sparked a wave of nostalgia among fans reminiscing about what they were doing the last time the Twins won a playoffs game.
