Three goalies from Minnesota are among 18 candidates announced for the inaugural Mike Richter Award.
The award goes to college hockey’s top goaltender.
Gopher goalie Adam Wilcox, Minnesota-Duluth goalie Aaron Crandall and St. Cloud State goalie Ryan Faragher have all been listed amongst the final 18 candidates.
The Star Tribune reports Wilcox has posted a 20-4-5 record with a 1.97 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage. Wilcox has three shutouts on the season.
Faragher is 16-6-4 on the season with a 2.62 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. He is also second in career wins at St. Cloud State with 49 and has 2,297 career saves coming into Friday night’s game. Faragher has one shutout on the season.
Minnesota-Duluth’s Crandall is 11-9-3, on the season. He has a 2.77 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage.
The finalists and winner will be selected by a committee of coaches, scouts and members of the media. The award is presented by Let’s Play Hockey and the Herb Brooks Foundation. The winner of the award will be announced during the Frozen Four in Philadelphia.
As a group, the candidates combine for a 2.20 goals-against average, a .926 save percentage and a 3.12 grade-point average.
