Its a state full of schools loaded with puck talent, here’s what they managed last weekend.
NCHC MINNESOTA DULUTH: The No. 20 Bulldogs had split their last three series going into the weekend, and came out of it with their fourth consecutive split.
No. 13 North Dakota, who have taken a gradual dive in the USCHO.com national poll after losing three of their last four going into the weekend, took Friday’s matchup, a 4-2 win behind two power play goals on seven man-advantage chances.
Saturday was a different story, with UMD erupting for six goals, Tony Cameranesi and Willie Raskob picking up assists on three of them.
The Bulldogs likely to see an increase in votes when the next national poll is released.
NCHC ST. CLOUD STATE: The Huskies received a first-place vote in the USCHO.com poll this past week, and justified the voter confidence with a 10-0 thrashing of Alabama-Huntsville Friday.
Eight different St. Cloud State skaters found the back of the net, while the 10-goal win tied a team record for biggest margin of victory.
Saturday, the Huskies had to be caught off guard by the Chargers Jekyll and Hyde-like effort.
Alabama-Huntsville tied a 3-2 game with just over six minutes left in the final period, but determined to avoid the upset, the Huskies Daniel Tedesco got the game-winner just 27 seconds later.
A monumental upset it would’ve been, considering the Chargers 0-10 record this year. The Huskies occupy the other end of the spectrum, with their sweep keeping them on just one loss this season.
WCHA BEMIDJI STATE: The Beavers had lost three in a row entering the weekend, and were looking to get back above .500 in the WCHA.
Friday was a good start, as goalie Andrew Walsh stopped 26 Alaska-Anchorage shots, leading Bemidji State to a 4-1 win.
Saturday Walsh wasn’t as sharp, allowing four UAA goals. Thankfully for the Beavers, they once again found the back of the net four times as well, the last of which tied it in the third period and broke a string of three goals in eight minutes for Anchorage.
There were no goals left in either side as it went to overtime, a 4-4 tie the result.
