This will be where you can find Saint Cloud State, UMD, Minnesota State-Mankato, and Bemidji State men’s hockey results and analysis each week throughout the college hockey season.
Its a state full of schools loaded with puck talent, here’s what they managed last weekend.
NCHC St. Cloud State: The No. 9 Huskies pulled off a huge sweep of No. 5 North Dakota this past weekend, with 3-2 and 3-1 wins in their inaugural NCHC season opening series.
Nine players found the scoring column for SCSU Friday, and they rattled off three straight goals after being down 1-0 Saturday.
With the two wins, the Huskies are likely to make a big jump in the USCHO.com top 20, and they are still without a loss this year in six games.
NCHC Minnesota-Duluth: UMD, who find themselves back in the USCHO.com top 20, occupying the final spot after their split with No. 2 Notre Dame last week, had another challenge this weekend with pesky Ohio State.
The opener went the way of the Bulldogs, a 3-1 win behind the 28 saves of Aaron Crandall.
The Big Ten’s Buckeyes struck back though, opening up a 3-0 lead and adding an empty-net goal late for a 4-2 win.
A split on the weekend for the Bulldogs, and they take the coming weekend off before returning to conference play against No. 5 UND Nov. 15.
WCHA Bemidji State and Minnesota State: The WCHA foes faced off this past weekend, with Minnesota State coming off a bye, while Bemidji State came in off a sweep of WCHA-newcomer Alabama-Huntsville last weekend.
After the weekend was complete, not a whole lot was decided on who the better team may be going forward, as each team took a victory.
A three-goal second period got the Beavers a win Friday, with goalie Andrew Walsh making 27 saves. The Mavericks struck back Saturday with two third period goals to seal a 4-3 win, and BSU shot themselves in the foot repeatedly all night, being down a man seven different times.
