Minnesota retailers are not on board with a sports memorabilia tax to help pay for the state’s $348 million portion of the new Vikings stadium, the Star Tribune reports.
The Minnesota Retailers Association set up a display of items licensed by major league teams at the Capitol on Tuesday to argue against the proposed tax, according to the newspaper. The group claims trying to get revenue from jerseys and autographed pictures of sports figures hits children aged 7-17 especially hard.
Lawmakers in both chambers are looking for alternative funding options because the primary source of revenue — electronic gambling — is not generating funds like projections first indicated.
