Mike Zimmer underwent a second surgery on his eye this week – his fourth in total – on Friday, according to a report.
ESPN reports that the Vikings’ head coach’s health “appears to be turning a corner for the better” following a second procedure on Friday, after he had emergency surgery for a detached retina on Wednesday, causing him to miss Thursday’s game against the Cowboys.
A source told ESPN that Zimmer intends to appear before the media on Wednesday, and could well be on the sidelines for the Vikings’ next game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Florida.
His surgery might prevent him flying down for next Sunday’s game, but the Daily Norseman reports there are contingencies in place to drive down there instead.
The reason he can’t fly, the website notes, is that his eye needs to avoid pressure changes, which are inherent in raveling by air.
Special teams coach Mike Priefer took charge of the Cowboys game, and is expected to re-assume the role should Zimmer not make it to Jacksonville.
