Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer postponed a press conference that was scheduled for Tuesday due to a “minor medical procedure,” the Vikings announced Tuesday.
That minor procedure might have saved his vision.
Addressing the media Wednesday, Zimmer, while wearing dark sunglasses, explained that he scratched his eye during Monday’s game against the Bears and doctors found that he had a torn retina – and without a minor procedure he could have gone blind.
Zimmer said he was having problems with his for vision “a couple of days” leading up to Monday’s game.
“If you don’t take care of those things you’ll have the possibility of going blind,” said Zimmer, explaining what doctors told him.
“It’s probably a good thing I scratched my eye during the game otherwise I might not have caught it in time.”
But Zimmer didn’t let the operation slow him down. He was at the team’s practice facility all day Tuesday after getting his eye fixed and he proceeded to stay through the night.
“I’ve been watching film with one eye all week,” Zimmer said.
