Mike Zimmer is entering just his third season as a head coach in the NFL, but he’s already among the best at his job, according to USA Today.
The publication ranked all 32 NFL head coaches and Zimmer came in at No. 4.
“Zimmer is the most creative defensive play-caller in the league. And more importantly, he knows how to develop young talent. Case in point: It took him only two years to turn Anthony Barr, who was seen as a raw prospect who would take some time to develop, into an All-pro caliber player. The Vikings defense is going to be very good for a very long time.”
The three coaches ahead of him include Arizona’s Bruce Arians, Seattle’s Pete Carroll and, of course, Bill Belichick of the Patriots.
Green Bay’s Mike McCarthy came in ninth. Ex-Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin, a Super Bowl-winning head coach with the Steelers, is ranked sixth.
