This is not the start the Wild wanted as they fell into an 0-2 hole after a 2-1 loss to the Blues in Game 2 of their best-of-seven playoff series Friday night in St. Paul.
Game 2 had a similar feel to Game 1 as the Wild dominated the first period but again, the Blues scored the game’s first goal – and it was the same guy who won it in overtime in Game 1, Joel Edmondson.
But as the second frame came to a close, Minnesota used a 5-on-3 power play to tie the game on a Zach Parise goal, his second of the series.
Late in the third period, Jaden Schwartz netted the game-winning goal for St. Louis – a wrist shot that snuck past goalie Devan Dubnyk’s left side.
Minnesota appeared to score the tying goal as the final seconds ticked off the clock, but the horn had already sounded.
Minnesota’s offense didn’t light up the box score like they did in Game 1 but they still outshot the Blues 24-22.
The series now shifts to St. Louis for games three and four. Puck drop on Sunday from St. Louis is set for 2 p.m.
