Mike Muscala, a former basketball standout at Roseville High School in Minnesota, has issued an apology in response to insensitive messages his father tweeted via an anonymous account.
According to ESPN and confirmed by USA Today, Bob Muscala was using a Twitter account under the alias “MuskieBobber.” Tweets made from the account were critical of All-Star Jimmy Butler’s requests to be traded by the Timberwolves.
One of the tweets he released was in response to an article about all-time great dust-ups in NBA history, written after Butler returned to practice with the Wolves last week and yelled at teammates and coaches. The MuskieBobber account said Butler’s behavior was “egomaniacal, African American mental illness.”
In reaction to Butler’s sit-down interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols this past week, he tweeted: “If Butler acted this way on drugs, he goes to rehab. Act this way due to mental problems, ESPN comes to him.”

Mike Muscala now plays for the Philadelphia 76ers after spending the first five years of his career with the Atlanta Hawks. He issued this statement on Saturday.
“First and foremost, I want to apologize for my father’s offensive social media commentary. His comments were uncalled for and inappropriate, and they do not reflect who I am. I’d also like to apologize to the 76ers and my colleagues across the NBA for the distraction my father’s comments caused. I really appreciate the professionalism and support shown by Elton, Coach [Brett] Brown, my teammates and the entire 76ers organization.”
Bob Muscala, still operating under the MuskieBobber moniker, tweeted Saturday that he hates what Butler has down to his “hometown Timberwolves.”
