Miguel Sanó smashed a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Minnesota Twins snapped a five-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday afternoon.
Twins starter José Berríos had a solid outing for the Twins but he also allowed a pair of home runs in his seven innings of work. One homer came in the first inning when Matt Olson hit a two-run bomb to put Oakland ahead 2-0.
The Twins got a run back in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout from Nelson Cruz, but the A’s went back up by two with an RBI single from Ramon Laureano in the third inning. With Mark Canha’s solo home run in the fourth, Oakland jumped ahead 4-1.
Athletics starter Cole Irvin shut down the Twins lineup through 6.2 innings but Minnesota was able to find more success against the Oakland bullpen. Although the Twins left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, they mounted a rally in the eighth allowing Sanó to play the hero.

Sanó three-run homer was his first since Apr. 15 and put the Twins ahead 5-4. The Twins turned to Hansel Robles in the ninth who closed the door and secured a much-needed win.
The Twins (13-24) will go for the series victory against the A’s on Sunday afternoon with a first pitch scheduled for 1:10 p.m.
