The Golden Gophers men’s basketball team had the fifth-ranked team in the country on the ropes, but Michigan ripped Minnesota’s heart out with a buzzer-beater to win 59-57 Tuesday night in Ann Arbor.
Michigan’s final possession was intense, beginning with Iggy Brazdeikis driving to the hoop only to have his shot blocked by Eric Curry. But the ball went right into the hands of Charles Matthews, who let a floater fly from the baseline and it found nothing but the bottom of the net for the game-winner.

Minnesota led 31-28 in a surprising first half, but trailed by as many as 13 points in the second half and had to score 10 straight down the stretch, tying the game on Gabe Kalscheur’s 3-pointer with 30 seconds to play.
The loss would’ve been Michigan’s second straight, having lost to Wisconsin last weekend. Instead, the Wolverines improve to 18-1 on the season while the Gophers fall to 14-5 overall and 4-4 in the Big Ten.
Jordan Murphy led the Gophers with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
