The Minnesota Gophers lost their second straight game on Saturday, as they fell to Michigan 42-13 in Ann Arbor, Michgan.
The Gophers were once again without Coach Jerry Kill, who suffered an epileptic seizure, and did not join the team in Michigan Saturday. The Star Tribune reports, that Kill did not travel with the team Friday, because he was not feeling well. But following the seizure Saturday missed his second game this season.
The Gopher secondary had no answer for Devin Funchess in the second half. The Michigan tight end caught seven passes for 151 yards and a touchdown. He was the top target for Devin Gardner who was 13 of 17 for 235 yards and the touchdown on the day.
Minnesota’s offense didn’t have the answers either. Redshirt freshman Mitch Leidner made the start at quarterback for the Gophers. Leidner turned it over twice in the game, losing a fumble on the game’s opening drive, and throwing an interception late that resulted in a Michigan touchdown. He finished 14 of 21 passing for 145 yards a touchdown, he also ran for 66 yards in the game.
Fitzgerald Toussaint scored a pair of touchdowns for the Wolverines.
Michigan keeps the “Little Brown Jug” for the 22nd time in 23 years. The Gophers are 4-2, 0-2 in the Big Ten.
Mitch Leidner said he found out about starting and about Kill both during walkthrough before the game. Lot of emotions to handle at once.
