The Minnesota Twins may have found an upgrade to their starting rotation as Michael Pineda turned in one of Minnesota’s best starts of the year in a 6-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Monday afternoon.
Pineda was strong on the mound, allowing a pair of runs on three hits, two walks, and eight strikeouts to give the Twins a boost. With Pineda limiting the Tigers, it was up to the Twins lineup to put up some runs and Ryan Jeffers put Minnesota on the board with his first major league home run in the third inning.

The Twins extended their lead to 4-0 when Eddie Rosario delivered a bases-clearing double later in the inning and the game never seemed in doubt.
Jeffers added an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth and Byron Buxton hit his sixth home run of the season to add an insurance run to help secure the victory.
The Twins improve to 26-17 after taking four of five games from the Tigers this weekend and stay one game back in the AL Central race with Cleveland hosting Kansas City on Monday night.
Minnesota will begin a doubleheader with the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday with Jose Berrios opposing Carlos Martinez in Game 1 and Randy Dobnak taking the hill against Daniel Ponce de Leon in Game 2.
