The Vikings announced on Friday that wide receiver Michael Floyd has been suspended – without pay – for the first four games of the NFL regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.
Floyd will be eligible to return to the team on Monday, Oct. 2 after the team’s Week Four tilt with the Detroit Lions.
The 29-year-old violated his house arrest sentence in June after failing multiple random breath tests. He was ordered to serve one day in jail for his violation. The wide receiver blamed the failed tests on Kombucha tea – which contains trace levels of alcohol – while watching movies with teammate Kyle Rudolph.
In February, Floyd pleaded guilty to one count of extreme DUI from an arrest that happened in Arizona in December. He served 24 days in jail and then served the 96 days under house arrest.
The Arizona Cardinals cut Floyd shortly after arrest took place and he was then picked up by the New England Patriots. Minnesota signed Floyd to a one-year deal in May.
Floyd played high school football at Cretin-Derham Hall in St. Paul and he was a first-round draft pick in 2013 after four seasons at Notre Dame.
