The Gopher women’s hockey team took the first game of their weekend series against Minnesota State University 7-3 on Friday night.
A hat trick from Minnesota’s Maryanne Menefee led the Gophers to the victory. She also had an assist on the night. Dani Cameranesi added three assists in the Minnesota victory. Both finished the game +4.
Minnesota took command from the early going. They built a 3-0 lead just 13 seconds into the second quarter, on two of Menefee’s goals and a third from Meghan Lorence.
The Gophers had Maverick goaltender Erin Krichiver under fire all night. She stopped 54 shots and still gave up seven goals.
Gopher freshman goaltender Sidney Peters stopped 16 of the 19 shots she faced in net.
The Gophers (20-1-3) and Mavericks continue their weekend series Saturday afternoon.
