After starting the season 15-1 the Gophers men’s basketball team lost 10 of 15 games to close the regular season. Despite that, they’ve apparently done enough to secure an invitation to the NCAA Tournament — that’s what the experts believe.
ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has the Gophers as a No. 9 seed in his latest bracketology.
He tells the Pioneer Press that even if Minnesota loses to Illinois in the first round of the Big Ten tournament today, it’s still probably not enough to knock them out.
Trevor Mbakwe thinks that even though the Gophers are sliding, “we still believe we’re one of the best teams.”
Mbakwe tells the Pioneer Press that he and fellow senior Minneapolis native Rodney Williams don’t want their careers to end as “a team that underachieved.”
