After learning of Tubby Smith’s dismissal from the University of Minnesota on Monday, sixth year senior Trevor Mbakwe told the Star Tribune that players “let him down” and “allowed him to get fired.”
Former Gophers sharp-shooter Blake Hoffarber says it’s “sad” to see Tubby get fired.
One U of M professor made his digust in the move known by sending a tweet to President Eric Kaler.

ESPN basketball analyst Jay Bilas agreed that giving Smith $2.5 million to leave is wrong.
Tubby Smith fired and bought out at Minnesota. Wow. Just, wow. Clearly, these schools have PLENTY of money laying around.

Saul Smith, Tubby’s son and assistant coach who was also fired on Monday, tells the Pioneer Press that they “hope to move on to bigger and better things.”
