The Minnesota Twins picked up where they left off from a historic 2019 season as Max Kepler’s two home runs and a strong offensive effort led the Bomba Squad over the Chicago White Sox for a 10-5 opening day victory.
The season got off on the right foot as Kepler deposited Lucas Giolito’s first pitch of the year into the right-field seats for an early lead. The Twins would extend their lead in the first highlighted by a two-RBI single from Jake Cave and spotted starter Jose Berrios with a 4-0 lead.
Unfortunately, that advantage wouldn’t last long even after Kepler blasted his second home run of the night in the second inning. Berrios struggled to find himself during the early innings and after an RBI groundout from Jose Abreu and a three-run homer from Yoan Moncada, the White Sox tied the game up at 5 after three innings.
Giolito would settle down, but the Twins would mount a rally in the fourth as Jorge Polanco provided a two-RBI single to give the Twins a 7-5 lead.

Minnesota extended its lead with three runs in the seventh and turned things over to the bullpen. In its first test of the year, the bullpen passed with flying colors allowing two hits over five innings of work from Trevor May, Tyler Clippard, Tyler Duffey and Cody Stashak.
The quartet helped the Twins pick up the 10-5 victory and earn their first win of the season. Minnesota will go for the series victory on Saturday as Randy Dobnak will square off with Dallas Keuchel in Chicago with first pitch scheduled for 1:10 p.m.
