Joe Mauer will celebrate his 30th birthday Friday.
He’s been in the league for ten years now, and ESPN is analzying his greatness.
As an example, Mauer’s back-to-back four hit games this week is a rare accomplishment for catchers. Only 10 other catchers in the last 75 years have done so. Another four hit game against the White Sox Friday would make Mauer just the second American League player in the last 60 years to have three straight, four hit games.
Recognizing Mauer as a great player is nothing new to Justin Morneau, who says he’s “been saying that about Joe for a long time.”
“I don’t want to make it too crazy, but it’s a birthday,” Mauer told the Star Tribune of his birthday plans. “You’re supposed to celebrate.”
