Twins catcher Joe Mauer is quietly staying atop the leader board in the American League batting race. After a 3-for-4 performance against Cleveland Tuesday night, Mauer is hitting .325, third in the league behind Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera (.333) and L.A.’s Mike Trout (.329).
If Mauer were to finish on top, it would be his fourth AL batting title, with the latest one coming in 2009 when he hit .365. In an injury-filled 2011 season, Mauer hit a career-low .287 in 82 games.
