Former Vikings Pro Bowl center Matt Birk was interviewed at the Vikings game on Sunday.
Birk, who’s been retired from football since 2012, now works for the league as Director of Player Engagement, and some believe he could eventually become the NFL commissioner someday.
When asked by Greg Coleman on what three things he would do differently, here’s what Birk had to say:
- He would get rid of offensive holding.
- All games would be played on natural grass.
- All players would stand for the National Anthem.
The third reason received a big ovation from the sellout crowd at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Birk has never been afraid to voice his opinions. In 2012, when he was a member of the Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl championship team, he protested a visit to the White House after he disagreed with Barack Obama’s stance on Planned Parenthood.
The former standout at Cretin-Derham Hall high school is a devoted Catholic who has also opposed the idea of same-sex marriage.
Birk spent 10 seasons in Minnesota – making the Pro Bowl six times – and finished the last four years of his career with Baltimore.
