Four runs in the fifth inning sparked the Twins past Toronto, 7-6 at Target Field Friday night. Darin Mastroianni collected his first major league hit and led the Twins with three RBI. Nick Blackburn struggled in five innings but the bullpen was fantastic as Alex Burnett, Jared Burton, Glen Perkins and Matt Capps held the Blue Jays to one run over the final four innings.
Minnesota, as a team, walked nine times. Joe Mauer finished 1-2 at the plate with three walks and two runs scored. Ryan Doumit continued to swing the bat well as he finished 2-4 with a double and two RBI. He and Josh Willingham are tied for the team-lead with 19 runs batted in.
The start of the game was delayed 1 hour and 56 minutes because of rain.
