The Minnesota Timberwolves have just announced that Kevin Martin is out indefinitely with an injury to his left thumb. In addition to Martin, Kevin Love also is missing Saturday night’s game, with a bruised quadriceps.
The Timberwolves said that Martin took an X-ray earlier Saturday, which revealed a non-displaced fracture of the distal phalanx in his left thumb, according to web reporter Mark Remme.
The team says the injury happened in the closing minutes of the Timberwolves 98-91 loss to the Pelicans in New Orleans.
The Wolves said they would give more information on Martin’s injury at the appropriate time.
Martin was averaging 19.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists. The Timberwolves are already without Nikola Pekovic, who is sidelined with bursitis in his right ankle.
With Martin out, the team says they have a few options in their rotation for players who could see an increase in minutes. Luc Mbah a Moute and Chase Budinger are the likely primary beneficiaries, but Robbie Hummel and Shabazz Muhammed may also see more minutes.
