It was a battle of complete games Monday night at Target Field as Felix Hernandez outdueled Liam Hendriks to lead the Mariners to a 1-0 win. Each pitcher went the distance, but an eighth inning homer from Eric Thames was the difference in the game.
Hendriks’ final line was 9 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Hernandez’s final line was 9 innings, 5 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Hendriks is still winless in his major league career.
It’s the second time Hernandez has dominated the Twins’ lineup. In early May he threw 8 shutout innings, giving him a total of 17 shutout innings against the Twins this season.
