The Twins were drilled by the Mariners, 8-2 in Seattle Thursday night.
The game was decided almost as soon as it started … for two reasons.
- Kevin Correia gave up six runs in the second inning and was pulled after recording just five outs.
- Hisashi Iwakuma started for the Mariners … and he hadn’t allowed an earned run in three career starts against the Twins.
Iwakuma is now 4-0 lifetime against the Twins and he still hasn’t allowed an earned run after the six shutout innings he threw last night.
The Twins didn’t score until the ninth inning when Chris Herrmann and Doug Bernier connected for RBI doubles.
The task of beating the Mariners doesn’t get any easier tonight against right-hander Felix Hernandez. “King” Felix leads the American League with a 2.43 ERA, and he hasn’t allowed a run in his last two starts against the Twins.
First pitch at 9:10 p.m.
Note: Joe Mauer (paternity leave) missed his third straight game.
