With the NFL Combine now in the books, every major sports outlet in the country is starting to release updated mock drafts, and the most polarizing player – Johnny Manziel – is going to the Vikings, according to USA Today.
The USA Today mock has Manziel going to the Vikings with the eighth pick. Mock drafter Nate Davis has Texas A&M quarterback as the third QB off the board. He has Teddy Bridgewater going to the Jaguars at No. 3 and Blake Bortles immediately after at No. 4 to the Browns. As for Johnny Football:
He’s obviously not the prototypical pocket passer that new offensive coordinator Norv Turner is accustomed to working with. But consider how effective RBs Marshawn Lynch, Frank Gore and Alfred Morris have been after being paired with multi-dimensional quarterbacks, then imagine what Adrian Peterson might do if teamed with Manziel. WRs Cordarrelle Patterson and Greg Jennings and TE Kyle Rudolph are a solid group of receivers in need of more effective quarterback play.
Chris Burke has Manziel going fourth overall to the Browns with the Vikings selecting Bortles in a mock draft for Sports Illustrated. The mock at FOXSports.com has Manziel going third overall to Jacksonville, while the Vikings are projected to take Buffalo linebacker Khalil Mack. Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr will be a Viking, according to Matt Miller’s mock draft for Bleacher Report. The mock at NFL.com has the Vikings going with Bridgewater.
According to CBS Sports, Manziel was one of as many as nine quarterbacks expected to meet with the Vikings during the NFL Combine.
Vikings.com caught up with Manziel for a “Combine Confessional” and they learned that he is an avid ping pong player and golfer.
Earlier this week, former Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski said Manziel shouldn’t be drafted in any of the first three rounds.
Barry Switzer, former Oklahoma Sooners and Dallas Cowboys head coach, has a love/hate feeling about Manziel, as he explained in an interview with CBS Sports Radio.

Mike Foss of USA Today may have put it best. He writes that taking a chance on Manziel will be a “very exciting, wildly entertaining, exceedingly volatile roll of the dice.”
