Diehard NFL fans will be scouring Twitter and flipping back and forth between ESPN, FOX Sports and NFL Network today searching for the latest breaking free-agent news.
While some teams are making splash plays via the open market, other teams are looking forward to the NFL Draft. It’s a pretty well known fact that the Vikings can’t wait to get their hands on a young quarterback – maybe a guy that can step in and start right away, or wait his turn and be groomed for a year or two under veteran quarterback Matt Cassel and offensive coordinator Norv Turner.
Will that player be Johnny Manziel? We looked at a bunch of mock drafts on Monday and some of the mocks tabbed Manziel as the Vikings’ selection with the No. 8 pick in the first round of the draft, and it that actually happens former Vikings quarterback Fran Tarkenton will love it.
The Hall of Fame QB told USA Today that the man they call “Johnny Football” reminds him of himself more than any player he can think of.
“He’s the closest thing I’ve seen to myself. Russell Wilson has some of it,” Tarkenton said. “But Manziel has those similarities even more so than Russell. Manziel is a quarterback savant.”
Wilson just won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks, so if Manziel can play like Tarkenton and bring a title to Minnesota, here’s to hoping he ends up in purple.
