The man accused of killing the two-year-old son of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is out of jail after someone posted a $2 million bond for his release.
According to KELO-TV, Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead said bond was posted for Joseph Patterson on Friday afternoon.
Patterson is awaiting trial in the death of Tyrese Ruffin, which is scheduled to begin at the end of the month. He has been charged with second-degree murder stemming from the child’s death in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, last October.
“The bond was posted for him yesterday afternoon shortly after lunch,” Milstead told the Argus Leader. “If he has the money to get released, he gets released.”
Patterson had been released from jail previously after his father posted $750,000 bond.
Patterson was arrested again in June. The Associated Press reports he faces additional charges of kidnapping and assault after prosecutors said he attacked the boys mother.
Peterson had only learned shortly before Ruffin was killed that he was the boy’s father. Peterson now faces charges himself from a separate incident.
Peterson has been indicted in Texas on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child. Peterson said the charges come from when he used a wooden switch to discipline his 4-year-old son.
The Vikings have placed Peterson on the exception list, until he gets his legal issues settled.
His first court appearance is scheduled for early October.
