Slow starts have been a problem for the Minnesota Timberwolves. On Wednesday, that trend continued as the New York Knicks built an 18-point lead and held on for a 102-101 victory at Target Center.
The Timberwolves got off to another slow start thanks to the play of Julius Randle. With Randle scoring 26 points and pulling down 12 rebounds, the Knicks took a 52-51 lead into halftime.
With R.J. Barrett adding 23 points, the Knicks continued to control the game in the third quarter as they built an 18-point over the Wolves.
The Wolves mounted their rally in the fourth quarter and Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards led the way.
In what’s become a script for the Timberwolves, Towns scored 18 points with 17 rebounds while Edwards scored 12 of his 24 points in the final frame.
Despite the run, the Wolves still needed someone to step up. Down 101-99 with under a minute to play, Malik Beasley hit a clutch 3-pointer to cap off a 20-point performance to lead the Wolves to victory.
The Timberwolves improved to 11-36 with the win and will travel to Memphis on Friday night.
