The Minnesota Lynx will hoist a pair of jerseys to the Target Center rafters next season as they’ll retire the numbers of former stars Seimone Augustus and Rebekkah Brunson.

“It will be an amazing moment to have both Rebekkah Brunson and Seimone Augustus honored when we can share this experience with more fans next season,” Minnesota Lynx Head Coach and General Manager Cheryl Reeve said in a statement. “Both players were instrumental in the franchise’s historic run of four championships in seven seasons. I’m thrilled to know their numbers will soon join [Lindsay Whalen] in the rafters.”
Augustus served as the face of the franchise after being selected by the Lynx with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2006 WNBA Draft. Augustus spent 14 of her 15 seasons in Minnesota, becoming an eight-time All-Star while averaging 15.9 points per game. After playing for the Los Angeles Sparks during the 2020 season, Augustus retired and is now an assistant on Derek Fisher’s staff.
“The Minnesota Lynx organization, fans and community will always have a special place in my heart,” Augustus said. “I poured my soul into this city for 14 years and created incredible memories on and off the court. I’m proud to be a part of a group of women that delivered four championships and made history.”
Brunson started her career with the Sacramento Monarchs in 2004 and won the 2005 WNBA title before being selected by the Lynx second overall in the 2009 dispersal draft.
A five-time All-Star, Brunson was tenacious on the glass during her career, ranking second in WNBA history with 3,356 rebounds. She retired after the 2018 season and is now an assistant on the Lynx coaching staff.
“As a player, I was honored to play with greats like Lindsay Whalen and Seimone Augustus,” Brunson said. “To be able to be a part of building the foundation on the court and setting the tone for what the Minnesota Lynx have become.”
Brunson’s No. 32 and Augustus’s No. 33 jerseys will be the second and third numbers in franchise history to be retired joining Lindsay Whalen, who had her No. 13 jersey retired in 2019.
