The Minnesota Lynx and Seattle Storm have been given the go-ahead to start their WNBA semifinal series after Sunday’s originally scheduled Game 1 was postponed after some players with the Storm received inconclusive COVID-19 test results.
Those inconclusive tests have been cleared, and Game 1 of the best-of-five series is now set to begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the content being televised on ESPN2.
“After comprehensive consultation with health and safety specialists following the additional testing of Seattle’s players and staff as well as the implementation of contact tracing, we feel confident in moving forward with the Storm and Lynx taking the court for Game 1 of their Semifinal series,” said WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, in a statement.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and are coordinating with medical specialists.”
One player, who has not been identified, has yet to be cleared to play. The player tested negative for COVID-19, but needs another negative test result, which she is awaiting the results of, in order to clear the league’s health and safety protocols.
