Let the speculation begin about what the Minnesota Lynx are planning to announce Thursday.
The four-time WNBA champions revealed plans for a “major announcement” on Thursday, with The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski reporting that the team says the 10 a.m. announcement will be “celebratory in nature.”
What might the Lynx have to celebrate?
What about Maya Moore? The former WNBA MVP announced earlier this year that she’s planning to sit out the upcoming season to focus on ministry. Could she be changing her mind?
Lindsay Whalen is now retired after her illustrious playing career, so maybe the Lynx have plans to retire her jersey. That’d certainly be worth celebrating.
Could it be about their new uniforms? Probably not since that was the talker last week.
It won’t be a surprise retirement announcement for veteran guard Seimone Augustus because she recently signed an extension to play her 14th season with the Lynx.
What about Rebekkah Brunson making a definitive decision one way or another about her future with the Lynx? The 37-year-old forward told the Star Tribune in January that she was still dealing with some symptoms of a concussion she suffered late last season, but noted that she’s still has the fire to play.
“If there should be any speculation about what I’m doing, it should be speculation that I’m playing,” she said.
Brunson is in her first year as a mother, served as a part-time analyst during Wolves games on Fox Sports North this past season, and even recently opened a new food truck business.
Whatever the announcement is, we’ll cover it as it happens Thursday morning.
The Lynx begin the 2019 WNBA season May 25 against the Chicago Sky, with their first preseason game coming May 10 against the Washington Mystics.
