Former Minnesota Lynx star Seimone Augustus has been named to the 2024 induction class to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
The class, which was revealed at an event during the Men’s Final Four in Phoenix, Ariz. on Saturday morning, includes Augustus, former Minnesota Timberwolves guard Chauncey Billups, Vince Carter, Bo Ryan, Michael Cooper, Walter Davis, Michele Timms, Jerry West, Doug Collins, Dick Barnett, Harley Redin, Herb Simon and Charles Smith.
Augustus was the No. 1 overall pick by the Lynx in the 2006 WNBA Draft and went on to become a key piece in Minnesota’s dynasty with four WNBA championships (2011, 2013, 2015, 2017) in the 2010s.
An eight-time All-Star, five-time All-WNBA Second Team selection and a 2012 All-WNBA First Team selection, Augustus’s biggest performance may have come during the 2011 WNBA Finals when she averaged 24.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists in a three-game sweep over the Atlanta Dream.
Augustus was also a three-time Olympian, winning gold medals in the 2008 (Beijing), 2012 (London) and 2016 (Rio de Janerio) games.
The 39-year-old has continued to rack up accolades after her playing career as a member of the WNBA’s 20th and 25th Anniversary teams and is one of five players to have her number retired by the Lynx, joining Lindsay Whalen (13), Rebekkah Brunson (32), Sylvia Fowles (34) and Maya Moore (23), who will have her number retired this summer.
Augustus is also the Lynx’s all-time leader with 5,881 points and 370 games played and is 14th in WNBA history with 6,005 career points and ranks eighth in field goals made (2,455) and playoff scoring (901 points).
Augustus is the fourth member of the Lynx franchise to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame, joining Whalen (2022), Katie Smith (2018) and current head coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve (2023).
Meanwhile, Billups played two seasons with the Timberwolves from 2000-02. While he averaged 10.9 points and 4.5 assists mainly as a reserve, his biggest contributions came with the Detroit Pistons, where he was a five-time All-Star and helped the Pistons win the NBA title in 2004.
Billups played 17 seasons in the NBA is currently the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers.
This year’s class will be inducted on the weekend of Aug. 16-17 in Springfield, Mass.
