Minnesota Lynx guard Odyssey Sims is facing two gross misdemeanor charges of third-degree DWI stemming from an early morning arrest June 6.
According to a criminal complaint, Sims was pulled over at 1:12 a.m. for an illegal lane change and going 77 mph in a 55 mph zone on westbound Interstate 394 near Penn Ave. in Minneapolis.
The trooper observed that Sims had bloodshot eyes, “mumbled speech” and noted a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. A preliminary breath test registered a .20 blood-alcohol content (BAC) on Sims. The legal limit to drive in Minnesota is a .08 BAC.
“The Minnesota Lynx are aware of the reported incident involving Odyssey Sims,” the Lynx said in a statement to KSTP. “As an organization we take these matters very seriously and continue to wait for the legal process to run its course and will have further comment when appropriate.”
Sims leads the Lynx in scoring (15.2 points) and assists (4.9). She scored 25 points in Minnesota’s road win over the Indiana Fever on Tuesday, coming up big in the clutch with a pair of free throws with under 30 seconds to play.
Sims is in her first season with the Minnesota after spending the previous two seasons in Los Angeles.
Minnesota is back in action at Dallas this Sunday at 3 p.m.
