The Minnesota Twins finished off a rough road trip on Sunday as the Detroit Tigers completed a three-game sweep by handing Minnesota a 3-2 loss at Comerica Park.
The final game of the series pitted Kenta Maeda against Tigers super prospect Casey Mize and the Tigers gave their young star an early lead with a Miguel Cabrera RBI single in the bottom of the first.
The Twins battled back, however as Marwin Gonzalez scored on a wild pitch in the second inning and Jorge Polanco smacked his third home run of the year off Mize in the third inning to give the Twins a 2-1 lead.

But that was the end of the Twins offensive effort for the afternoon as the Tigers turned to Tyler Alexander in the fourth inning. Alexander continued the Twins’ recent struggles against left-handed pitching, holding the Twins to two hits while striking out three in 3 2/3 innings.
With the Twins silenced at the plate, the Tigers clawed back with Jeimer Candelario’s second home run of the series in the fourth inning and took the lead with a Jonathan Schoop home run in the sixth.
The Twins will begin a pivotal three-game series with the White Sox on Monday with Rich Hill slated to oppose Lucas Giolito in the opener.
