The Timberwolves reached 20 wins on the season with Monday’s 95-94 win over the visiting L.A. Clippers. Chris Paul missed a free-throw to tie the game with a little more than two seconds remaining and the Wolves held on for the win.
Blake Griffin had 26 points and 12 rebounds for the Clippers, but Kevin Love outplayed him by scoring 39 points to go along with 17 rebounds. Minnesota is 20-19 and in ninth place in the Western Conference.
Love scored 16 of his 39 points in the first quarter, a quarter in which Minnesota outscored L.A. 26-21, setting the theme for the game — a back-and-forth affair.
The Clippers outscored the Wolves by nine points in the second quarter, the Wolves bounced back with a 30-21 advantage in the third quarter and held off a late charge to win the game.
Derrick Williams followed up his 27 point performance in Los Angeles last week with another 15 points and nine rebounds tonight. The rookie from Arizona helped Minnesota to an early with with back-to-back three’s in the first half.
Darko Milic added 13 points and Michael Beasley scored nine off the bench.
