An arrest warrant has been issued for former Vikings safety Darren Sharper and another man, accusing them of raping two women in New Orleans last year.
The Associated Press reports the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office and New Orleans Sex Crimes detectives have obtained the warrants for Sharper, 38, and 26-year-old Erik Nunez, each man faces two counts of aggravated rape.
According to the AP report, police say the women were raped at the same location on Sept. 23.
The Sports Xchange reports that investigators learned that two women were allegedly sexually assaulted by Sharper in the same apartment that night.
“New information uncovered indicates Nunez also allegedly raped both women that night at the same location,” New Orleans police said in a statement.
Sharper pleaded not guilty to rape charges in Los Angeles last week, but he is also under investigation in sexual assault cases in Florida, Nevada and Arizona.
So far the only formal charges that have been filed against Sharper are in California. His attorney, Leonard Levine, says all of the acts were consensual, saying the women “voluntarily ingested alcohol and drugs in many cases,” according to the Sports Xchange report.
A judge raised Sharper’s bail from $200,000 to $1 million. Sharper was also ordered not to leave Los Angeles County or go to any night clubs.
If Sharper is convicted in California he could face up to 30 years in prison. In Louisiana, aggravated rape is punishable by life in prison without parole.
Sharper was a six-time All-Pro. He played for Green Bay, the Vikings and New Orleans from 1997 to 2010.
