The Minnesota Gophers defeated the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday at Williams Arena 66-60.
The win for Minnesota snapped a three-game losing streak and moves the Gophers to 13-2 this season at “The Barn.”
DeAndre Mathieu’s layup with 11.6 seconds to play put the Gophers on top by four points in the game’s closing seconds. Mathieu drove down the right side of the lane and made a perfect jump stop to free himself up for the layup to put the Gophers up by two possessions.
After a missed three by the Hoosiers, Mathieu grabbed the rebound and was fouled. He then made two free throws with 3.8 seconds to play to secure the win.
Mathieu led a balanced attack with 16 points. Mo Walker scored 14 points and also grabbed eight rebounds in the victory.
Indiana got out to a quick start as Troy Williams scored the Hoosier’s first nine points.
But the Gophers battled back and cut the Indiana lead to six at halftime.
Then in the second half, Richard Pitino’s Gophers turned up the pressure and took control of the game, outscoring the Indiana 36-24 in the second half.
The Gophers (16-8, 5-6 Big Ten) are back in action on Thursday at Wisconsin.
