Hey, Duluth: The Cup is coming, the Cup is coming!
The Stanley Cup, that is, one of sports’ most revered – and well-traveled – trophies.
The Duluth News Tribune reports that the cup is indeed coming to that hockey-crazy city in October.
Wait a minute. Isn’t that thing in the possession of the Chicago Blackhawks, who won the dang thing in June?
Yes, but in keeping with tradition, the Cup has been all over the place since.
Blackhawks assistant general manager Norm Maciver, a former All-American defenseman at UMD and a Duluth resident, will bring the Cup to town for one day, says the News Tribune.
Though Maciver didn’t yet want to publicly divulge the Cup’s travels during the day, it will be on display in the Amsoil Arena concourse from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 4, before the UMD women’s regular-season opener.
The thing has been all over the place, most recently at RiotFest in Chicago, where it didn’t make an appearance during the Replacements’ set there, but instead popped up during a gig by Fall Out Boy.
The Chicago Sun-Times recently weighed in, and told the Blackhawks to quit parading the darn thing around and get back to the business of winning it again this season.
