Wednesday was Randy Moss’ first return to Winter Park since his four-game stint with the Vikings in 2010. Obviously, any diehard Vikings fan remembers Moss terrorizing defenses for seven seasons from 1998-2004.
But what Vikings memory stands out most to Moss? We asked him, and Moss took us back to 1998 and Lambeau Field.
“My favorite Viking memory has to be the Monday Night Football game against the Green Bay Packers. Coach Green is up at the podium and if anyone knew coach Green, he could play the drums and knew rhythm very good.
So he’s up there playing the beat on the podium… we never knew why he was playing that beat. So when he starts playing the beat, he was basically telling Randall Cunningham, Randall McDaniel, the offense, and Cris Carter and them, ‘this is the rhythm we’re going to have to play to the whole night in order for us to be successful.’
The rest is history.”
In just his fifth NFL game, Moss hauled in five passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns in Minnesota’s 37-24 route of Green Bay, snapping the Packers’ 25-game home winning streak in the process.
Moss was a cheese grater. His 14 touchdowns against the Packers were his most against any opponent.
