1. Rubio becomes a threat
Ricky Rubio had a huge night for the Wolves. He scored a career high 28 points on 10-of-17 shooting to go with 14 assists to lead the Wolves back from 16 points down in the second half to pick up the season-opening win.

2. Don’t forget about K-Mart
As in Kevin Martin. Martin, who was demoted from the starting lineup, brought Minnesota some instant offense off the bench. Martin scored 23 points in 29 minutes.
3. Advantage Towns
It was the first time in the modern history of the NBA that the two top picks in the NBA Draft met head-to-head in the season opener. Karl-Anthony Towns was drafted first overall by the Timberwolves, while D’Angelo Russell went No. 2 to the Lakers.
Towns won the battle scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds for the double-double in the Wolves victory. Russell scored just four points on 2-of-7 shooting.
Tweet of the Night:
Late Wolves coach Flip Saunders is still on everyone’s mind. The Lakers and Timberwolves held a special moment to honor Saunders before the team’s tipped off the season.
